Tecumseh Center: Our clinicians are David C Deal Ph.D., Sharon Schlater LISW, Betty Rettig LPPC and Lisa Stuck PsyD. We are located at 1450 South Clinton St., Defiance Ohio. The Tecumseh Center-David C Deal, PhD and Associates, have been serving Northwest Ohio for almost 30 years. All therapists are Ohio State Board licensed and are extensively experienced in the treatment of a wide range of problems. Therapists also have individual specialty interests such as in the counseling of children, severe marital dysfunction or issues associated with physical health disorders. All counselors have an abiding respect for the healing power that lies within the individual and feel it is our responsibility to facilitate that power.

If you schedule an appointment you will be asked, in the most general terms, about your issues and what type of therapist you would prefer. We can also answer your insurance related questions. (Virtually all insurance companies are contracted with our counselors).

David C Deal, Ph.D.: Dr. Deal earned his Bachelor’s degree in psychology from Indiana University. He received his Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Psychology from The Ohio State University, graduating in 1979. He has resided and practiced in the Northwest Ohio area since that time. With over 30 years of professional experience, he has expertise in a wide range of therapeutic approaches, enabling him to tailor counseling to your needs. He believes in a respectful, cooperative therapeutic relationship and he believes the “seeds of recovery” are already present within each individual, couple or family.

Sharon Schlater, LISW: Sharon is a licensed independent social worker and obtained her bachelor’s degree in social work and psychology from The Defiance College and her Master’s degree from Case Western Reserve University. She has over 25 years of clinical experience, with a specialization in the needs of children in addition to her general practice. She emphasizes a holistic, trusting therapeutic approach that is designed to meet the specific needs of each client and enables increased empowerment in their everyday lives.

Elizabeth Rettig, LPPC: A graduate of Toledo Hospital School of Nursing, Betty worked for nearly 40 years as a Registered Nurse. She earned her BS from Defiance College and a Master’s degree in Clinical Counseling in 2000. Betty combines her nursing knowledge with an understanding of mental health issues to create a holistic approach to the individual. Betty has a special interest in working with people who are dealing with health issues and works closely with physicians to coordinate care.

Lisa Stuck, Psy.D.: Dr. Stuck earned her Bachelor's degree in psychology from Mt. Vernon Nazarene University. She received a doctorate in psychology from Wright State University School of Professional Psychology. She has practiced for over 20 years, serving individuals, families, and couples. Dr. Stuck believes in viewing the individual holistically, and utilizing methods that promote healing to all aspects of the individual including physical, emotional and spiritual. Psychological approaches are selected based on the needs of the clients, and care is taken to develop an environment which facilitates growth and positive change.

We accept medical insurance. We are providers for most HMO and PPO insurers. Our clinic is conveniently located in Tecumseh Center.
